PMAH is a beauty and skincare store that offers a curated selection of Japanese beauty products. Originally online only, they decided to do a pop-up shop within the BTS Aree train station for their first physical location, with eyes on building more should the pop-up prove successful.
With both the size of the site and time allotted for installation—trains run nearly 24/7 through the station—presenting serious constraints, the project required a bit of ingenuity.
The solution was a modular system of shelves and accent pieces that could be quickly installed and adapted to the needs of the space, be it this one, or the next. The system was also built to be reusable so that future pop-up shops could quickly be taken down, and then reassembled somewhere new.
To capture attention in the heavily-trafficked BTS Aree station, we strategically placed strong pops of color at either side of the configuration so as to draw eyes from multiple directions. A myriad of textures helps build a sense of intrigue and playfulness, while the primitive geometry of the accent pieces adds a sculptural element to space. Soft patterns and light woods keep the overall impression calm and sophisticated with the warmth of the coral playing well with the wood.
A profusion of sharp lines and angles is contrasted by a handful of graceful curves, calling to mind the smooth, supple skin advertised in PMAH's many products.
