Madmatter is a sustainable Thai lifestyle brand that turns deadstock fabrics and second-hand clothes from landfills into fashionable new pieces to be worn again. They produce a range of everyday basics such as shirts, bags, caps, etc.

Our objective for this project was to find ways of physically and visually expressing the brand's mission of "Creative Repurposing." To us, this meant that the choice of materials would play a huge role. We used accessible and readily available materials such as concrete blocks, plywood, traditional molding, etc.—things that are easily found in the average supply store.

This approach was chosen in order to reduce the cost and energy required in executing the project and further enforce the sustainability that's central to the brand. Rather than try to make these materials into something they're not, we chose to leave the color and texture mostly untouched and instead use interesting combinations and configurations as a way to let these materials shine. Traditional decorative moldings are used to support a plywood counter, placed atop a stack of white concrete blocks—the mix feels unconventional yet familiar and shows that even with sustainable everyday materials, you can create something visually impactful.
